The engineering of today’s complex systems requires an in-depth appreciation of technology application and its integration to create a useful and useable system. The most successful system designs begin with a rigorous systems engineering process that comprehensively identifies functional and physical requirements. It synthesizes those requirements, and thereby defines a system’s architecture and subsequent interface details. STi personnel are thoroughly immersed in the Systems Engineering processes, tools, and technical reviews as they support their customers in the acquisition of products and services. Our engineers support the planning and execution of system engineering technical reviews for acquisition programs ranging from new development major acquisition programs to Engineering Change Proposals for fielded systems. STi personnel ensure that Systems Engineering processes are in accordance with applicable DoD guidance and policy and that all gate reviews (e.g. SRR, PDR, CDR, IPR, TRR) are accurate, relevant, and timely. We understand the importance of clear requirements definition and traceability through to the test, evaluation, and certification processes.
STi personnel are highly experienced in test and evaluation (T&E) and its role in providing knowledge to aid in managing the engineering risks involved in developing, producing, operating and sustaining complex systems. Our staff includes United States Naval Test Pilot School graduates with vast experience in helicopter, fixed wing and systems test and evaluation. We understand test and evaluation requirements and our experience ranges from the program level in the development/drafting of the Test and Evaluation Master Plan (TEMP), the planning of new aircraft test programs to meet mission and demonstration requirements, the drafting of test and support plans including the development of test metrics and measurement requirements, to the execution of the test plans including flight planning, briefing, telemetry monitoring, data collection and reduction, and the drafting of the final reports. Our engineers are poised to meet test and evaluation requirements for the full spectrum of systems needed by Ground, Air, Sea, or Cyber Warfighters.
STi personnel have extensive experience in modeling and simulation and test and evaluation of M&S. Our experience ranges from test and evaluation of flight simulators to the specification, procurement, and verification, validation and accreditation (VV&A) of experimental simulations. We also support the development and full scale validation of models utilizing computational fluid dynamics methods for real time applications in research and training simulators. Combined with our modeling and simulation procurement, systems engineering, and test and evaluation experience; STi personnel provide our customers with comprehensive skill sets necessary for M&S requirements definition, system specification, system procurement, and system VV&A in accordance with DoD requirements using the best practices of organizations like the Defense Modeling and Simulation Office.
STi engineers have a solid background across all aerospace engineering disciples, including fluid mechanics, flight dynamics, control engineering, aeroelasticity, structures and materials science. STi currently supports customers with technical expertise in programs relating to aircraft flight dynamics, flying qualities, performance, propulsion, and computational fluid dynamics flow modeling for rotary and fixed wing aircraft. From experimental testing at model scale in wind tunnels and full scale testing on land or at sea, to computational flowfield analysis, STi offers a broad range of aerodynamics expertise, applicable to aircraft and ship design, acquisition and test. Our aerospace engineers are experienced in all phases of the system life cycle, from research through test and evaluation to in-service support, many with the benefit of an operational background to give them a thorough understanding from the user’s perspective.
